Roland Pasqual Nurse was born in Bronx, New York. His father was born in Havana, Cuba
and his mother was born in Manati, Puerto-Rico. Roland's inspiration comes from big city
culture, Gothic and contemporary architecture, industrial design and the many visits to
museums and galleries. Drawing human anatomy at an early age, he went on to study
figure drawing at the
National Academy Museum & School www.nationalacademy.org
in New York under the renowned art instructor and author Terence Cole, who is now
teaching at the Art Students League in New York. Although Roland has studied the
human figure, he has always been inspired by abstract expressionism and all avant-garde
media.

During the 1970s and into the mid-1980s, Roland was part of the
Graffiti revolution
where subway trains and walls were his expressive canvas. In 1986 at the age of 18, his
exploratory spirit inspired him to join the U.S. Navy and travel the world for four years. In
the 1990s, he felt his calling was to help the disabled, so he worked in the physical
therapy and prosthetics profession for ten years. Soon after, the stories of triumph and
sorrow weighed in on him as he sought to understand how people around the world were
impacting the lives of others. This was the impetus for Roland in deciding to earn his MBA.

Today, he uses every available opportunity through his education and international travel
to study and seek an evolving and cerebral artistic expression that can be shared with
others. Roland has been greatly inspired by the works of many world-renowned
Abstract
Expressionist
and Old Masters, including Rubens, Caravaggio, da Vinci, Dürer, Picasso,
Rauschenberg, de Kooning, Frankenthaler, Johns, Mitchell, Rothko, Motherwell, Twombley,
and Tapies.

Now living in Florida, Roland progressed on to creating abstract paintings he refers to as
Renovation paintings and is continually brainstorming on innovative concepts, such as
cryptic forms of dialogue in his paintings only known to him and inquiring minds.

Thank you for viewing my artwork.
